Janie Crisp
Nurse, in house trainer
On Janie’s last official day at work, just moments before her retirement as practise nurse for Hanslope surgery Janine Moore begged Janie to take up the challenge of turning a group of untrained non healthcare people into professional health care assistants. As someone looking after an elderly relative at the time, she knew first-hand the local need for such a service with the right values and commitment and agreed to help.
Janie took a small group including Vicky Luck, Luke Luck, Tasha Ries, Stacey Bushell and taught them basic manual handling, personal care, fluid and nutrition, catheter care, pressure wound awareness and emergency first aid in preparation for Hanslope Care’s CQC registration. We couldn’t have done this without her.
Janie had been the practise nurse for over twenty-five years. She joined the register for general nurses in 1975 and has experience dealing with orthopaedics, complex patients, Life support and management of anaphylaxis. In the 1990’s she obtained the qualification for practice nurses and whilst taking up post gained valuable experience with asthma care and breathlessness management, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease management, managing BPH, safeguarding adults and children, and much more.
Janie continues to deliver the in-house basic care certificate, which she insists is handwritten and formally marked with feedback.
She remains responsible for the ‘old school’ bread-and-butter nursing skills which have been instilled in this company by her influence; hygiene and handwashing, ‘barrier nursing’, patient confidentiality, dignity, and consent are the essence of her approach to care.
Janie also delivers mandatory training to all staff which includes MAR, emergency first aid, food hygiene and safeguarding.
Janie enjoys watching all the staff under her guidance flourish and grow. She is proud of everyone, but especially those she has inspired to be clinical nurses, like Tasha Ries and Connie Green.
